Nero's Decay

Artist: Alesana
Album: On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax
Year: 2006
UK chart: ?

Our empire has fallen
the columns came crashing down
faster that children could outrun the shadows
drunk with hysteria the survivors are running for their lives
as precious dreams erupt before their very eyes

tonight, it's over...at long last we will fall
ruins will fight in our stead

my flesh is burning from the embers
but still the brilliant tale of our utopia survives
tonight her beautiful exterior may crash and burn to ash
but the fight for her honor will rage on
I hope I never see the end
I hope I never have to live without her comfort
but for now she dies... oh Rome! so full of majesty, you're gone...

wind chokes on the ashes as acrid smoke strangles the sun
their jealous arrows ran, hollow drums pound at the gates
breaking the din of screams
our feeble offerings to forgotten Gods are left to rot in temples of their lust
as they lay forth their plans to destroy our pride, our home

tonight, it's over...at long last we will fall
ruins will fight in our stead

my flesh is burning from the embers
but still the brilliant tale of our utopia survives
tonight her beautiful exterior may crash and burn to ash
but the fight for her honor will rage on
I hope I never see the end
I hope I never have to live without her comfort
but for now she dies... oh Rome! so full of majesty, you're gone...
...beg the flames for our mercy...
these aged walls have seen too much
to forget the past in the face of this final trial
watch her crumble so true as mayhem cuts her down
let them have our treasure, her voice lives on
let them take our city for her splendor lives on

at long last we will fall

My analysis:
Well, as usual, allusions played a heavy part in this song, the comparison of losing a loved-one (girl-friend) from somebody else, is like the fall of Rome , another is the persona. Nero as we all know is the worst emperor that took hold of ancient Rome
Its same as saying, that the persona really did not take good care of their relationship (the girl) so he looses her, though their relationship was near to perfection just like the once ancient and glorious Rome.

Clostridium Tetani

Kamatis kayo! Kalamansi! Kwarenta ang kilo! Cellophane!

Heart-Shaped Box

Artist: Nirvana
Album: In Utero
Year: 1993
UK chart: 5

She eyes me like a Pisces when I am weak
I've been locked inside your Heart-Shaped box for a week
I was drawn into your magnet tar pit trap
I wish I could eat your cancer when you turn back

Hey
Wait
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Hate
Weight
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Hey
Wait
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice

Meat-eating orchids forgive no one just yet
Cut myself angel's hair and baby's breath
Broken hymen of your highness I'm left black
Throw down your umbilical noose so I can climb right back

FACT: Kurt Cobain, Nirvana's frontman and the song's author, claimed that this song was inspired by a television report of children suffering from cancer. However, many believe it was really written about his shaky but passionate relationship with his wife, Courtney Love. The lyrics do tend towards this latter interpretation, since they seem to concern themselves with an unstable romance between two individuals. It's worth noting that the lyrics mention Pisces and Cancer, Cobain's and Love's respective astrological signs. Love, after their second meeting sent a small heart-shaped box, containing, among other things, a doll's head, to his hotel room. This is believed to have inspired the song's title. Cobain and Love both shared a love and fascination of dolls.

Hey Jealousy

Artist: Gin Blossoms
Album: New Miserable Experience
Year: 1992
UK chart: 24

Tell me do you think it'd be alright
If I could just crash here tonight
As you see I'm in no shape for drivin'
And any way I've got no place to go

And you know it might not be that bad
You were the best I ever had
If I hadn't blown the whole thing years ago
I might not be alone

Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone but something might be found to take its place

Hey jealousy
Hey jealousy
Hey jealousy
Hey jealousy

You can trust me not to drink
And not to sleep around
And if you don't expect too much from me
You might not be let down

Cos all I really want's to be with you
And feel like I matter too
If I didn't blow the whole thing years ago
I might be here with you

Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone but something might be found to take its place

Hey jealousy
Hey jealousy
Hey jealousy
Hey jealousy

Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone but something might be found to take its place

Hey jealousy
Hey jealousy

Listen to my heart
There's only one thing I can start

REVIEW:
Gin Blossoms guitarist Doug Hopkins wrote this about his old girlfriend, who was attempting to reconcile with. Hopkins had a lot of personal problems and struggled with alcohol abuse. When the band recorded the album, Hopkins was in bad shape, so they fired him. After this became a hit, he got even more depressed and committed suicide on December 5, 1993.
